Wisconsin Society of Orthotists, Prosthetists & Pedorthists
Presidents Address
"Individual commitment to a group effort -- that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work." - Vince Lombardi
Over the past few years I have witnessed WSOPP develop from an initial gathering of a few individuals who shared a common concern about issues relevant to our profession, into a statewide professional association. There is no doubt that this has occurred due to the contribution and commitment of many individual members, business owners and supplier sponsors.
As with many volunteer organizations much of the ongoing work is shouldered by a core working group, in this case the WSOPP Board of Directors, as well as the committee chairs and active committee members. The success of the society is directly attributable to this wonderful assemblage of people committed to a shared purpose. Those of you who have attended any of our semi-annual meetings hopefully will agree that these organizational efforts have resulted in important benefits to our membership.
One concern which I would like to share with you is that this success may have lead to an understandable misconception that everything is being taken care of. This is not necessarily the case, especially with some of the larger legislative projects such as parity and licensure. 2010-2011 will be a critical period in terms of translating our work into important legislation for the protection of our patients and our profession. This will require a substantial investment of manpower and money. The only way we can confidently continue forward with these efforts is with the knowledge that our membership is dedicated to the same cause.
My request to each of you is this: Please take the opportunity to let us know whether or not the parity and licensure initiatives are worthy of your support. I would appreciate hearing from as many of you as possible between now and the next membership meeting on April 16th. Please contact me via email: dennisfarrellcp@aol.com.
Take care and I hope to see you in April.
Sincerely,
Dennis Farrell, C.P.
